Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd (FHI) has notified PT TC Subaru and Motor Image Indonesia of a recall affecting 523 units of 2006 - 2013 model year Legacy/Outback, Impreza, Forester and Exiga.
If the relay-switch is turned on with insufficient contact point pressure caused by less over-travel stroke of the contact point/s, contact point bouncing will occur. This damages and wears off the surface of the contact points which increases the occurrence of arc-discharges, resulting in the contact points melting. As a result, the contact points of the relay are welded, which will create a continuous electric current. This will cause the secondary air injection pump to keep operating without stop.
This malfunction may cause the warning light to illuminate and the secondary air injection pump to melt or create smoke and/or odor. If the continuous electric current does not stop, there is potentially a risk of fire.
