Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd (FHI) has notified PT TC Subaru and Motor Image Indonesia of a recall affecting 12 units of Model Year 2004 - Model Year 2007 Impreza/WRX/STI.
The affected vehicles were equipped with front passenger airbag SPI inflators, which have been found to be defective.
These inflators were made with a propellant that can degrade over time and may lead to ruptures. There is no definitive cause yet, but exposure to moisture for extended periods play a role in causing the inflator propellant to ignite too quickly, hence producing excess pressure that might cause the inflator to rupture and send metal fragments into the front passenger cabin. This may potentially cause serious injuries to the vehicle occupants.
Notification letters of these recalls have been sent to the owners of the affected vehicles, based on our current records. Through this medium, we also hope to reach owners who are not in our records and therefore may not have received such notifications, for example, subsequent owners of the affected vehicles (such as a purchaser of a used vehicle) or owners who have changed their contact details without notifying us.
If you are an owner of the affected vehicles Model Year 2004 - Model Year 2007 Impreza/WRX/STI or Model Year 2013 - Model Year 2015 BRZ or Model Year 2006 - Model Year 2013 Legacy/Outback, Impreza, Forester and Exiga and have not received any notification from us regarding this recall, we urge you to register with us here; and we will be in contact with you in regards to this recall activity.
