True Grit - Only 13 Contestants Remain After 72 Hours

Day 4: MediaCorp Subaru Challenge 2014 - The Asian Faceoff

  • 13 left standing after more than 72 hours
  • Last standing female contestant giving everything she's got to win Challenge

11 November 2014, Singapore - More than 72 hours into The MediaCorp Subaru Challenge 2014 - The Asian Face-Off, 13 contestants - 7 from Singapore and 6 regional - remain in the running for the grand prize of a Subaru car.

Keeping their right palms firmly on one of ten Subaru Imprezas at Ngee Ann City Civic Plaza, contestants enjoyed almost 36 hours of clear skies and relatively low temperatures before enduring a heavy downpour this morning lasting almost two hours.

Amongst the local finalists who displayed unwavering commitment and determination to win is 36-year-old Analiza Binte Mokhtar. Given some reprieve by the cool temperature, she is the final female left in the competition. Her eighth time competing, Analiza had attained a commendable position last year, marking a personal best of 70 hours 30 minutes.

Other local finalists still putting up a great fight include several familiar faces. These contenders have remained undeterred despite not winning previous Subaru Challenges; instead they choose to come back with even more determination to win. Amongst them are swimming instructor Desmond Huat and Abdul Hamid Bin Jonid, a private driver, both loyal supporters of the Challenge, with eleven and seven years of experience respectively. Also in the remaining 13 is one-armed marathoner Adam Khamis who has also competed in the Challenge for the past three years.

Six regional contestants have also remained strong in their battle for a Subaru car, with Vietnam and Philippines tied in the lead with two contenders still standing. Four of the remaining six contestants, two representatives from Vietnam and one from both Philippines and Malaysia, are returning contenders hoping to make this year's edition a triumphant one.

To mark the 13th year, for the first time ever, the public has the opportunity to win extra breaks for their friends or family competing in the event by playing a special online game. The top 10 game scorers on the scoreboard will earn their supported participant an extra 5-minute break. The scoreboard will reset after every break and the public contest will end once we reach the final 11 contestants.

In addition to being eligible for the grand prize of a Subaru car, regional contestants will also compete for additional titles and cash prizes. The title of Country Winner and a cash prize of S$1,000 will be awarded to the final standing representative of each participating region. The last standing regional contestant will win the Asian Winner title and walk away with an additional S$5,000 cash. The country or region, whose participants have the longest combined standing time, will be awarded the Country Team Winner title along with a cash prize of S$10,000 to be equally divided among the team.
